Rooted in Tradition. Designed for Today.
Dalmazio Design began in 1980, born from the vision of Gaspare and Carmen Dalmazio. They saw a need in the Italian-American community: a place that honored the cherished tradition of Il Corredo della Sposa—the Bridal Trousseau—providing everything a newlywed couple would need to build a life and home together.
Originally founded as Dalmazio Imports, we opened on Brooklyn’s iconic 18th Avenue, offering exclusive Italian housewares, furniture, and fine gifts. As our reputation grew, we expanded our collection to include brands from both Italy and the U.S.—quickly becoming a trusted one-stop shop for the home.
The Heart of the Tradition: Confetti & Bomboniere
Dalmazio soon became part of Brooklyn’s wedding culture through the beloved Italian tradition of the bomboniera—a gift favor filled with confetti (Jordan almonds or chocolates) representing life’s bittersweet moments.
The almond signifies life’s challenges, while the sugar coating represents the sweet times. These favors, given in odd numbers to symbolize indivisibility, are shared with loved ones to mark life’s most cherished occasions.
We expanded our offerings to include beautifully curated gift favors for weddings, christenings, and more—each one crafted with meaning and elegance.
The Birth of Dalmazio Design
At just 15, Sandra Dalmazio joined the family business with a natural creative talent. By 19, she was designing custom invitations and developing her own books to help couples create something truly unique for their big day.
Her passion led her to study industrial design at Pratt Institute, where she refined her skills in centerpiece and event design. As the business grew, we relocated to West 6th Street—offering everything from home décor and stationery to full event design services.
A Family Legacy, Reimagined
By the late 1990s, Sandra and her husband Roberto had taken full ownership of the business. Together, they expanded the brand, introduced exclusive new product lines, and began designing full-scale events—from weddings and sweet sixteens to bar mitzvahs and baby showers.
In 2012, a devastating fire destroyed our West 6th Street location. While the loss was painful, it couldn’t extinguish the Dalmazio spirit. We temporarily relocated to Avenue U, and in 2016, opened our current and permanent home on Avenue P, just steps from where it all began.
From Imports to Inspiration
In 2017, we rebranded as Dalmazio Design to reflect our full evolution—from importers of fine goods to designers of unforgettable experiences.
Today, we help our clients design their most cherished moments—personalized gifts, custom invitations, elegant event decor, and more.
